French team-leader escape through the windows… for a client


I can’t believe we’ve already reached the end of this week. The days flew by.

Anyways, something interesting happened a while ago, I was in a meeting with a client and the meeting was about how we would be collaborating with another French software company. So they were there as well.

When the meeting ended, we had a bad surprise. The boardroom door was stuck, our host tried to open it a few times using different tactics, but nothing worked…

They had to call in a locksmith.

Now, it didn’t matter much to me. I was free and I started to check and reply to my emails.

But the leader of the other team was getting antsy. They had another meeting immediately afterwards. Seeing that it's taking too long, she decided to take the matters into her own hands.

Just to give you a rough idea of the situation, we were on the first floor in an industrial building. On one side of the room, the windows gave out to the roof of the ground floor, so theoretically, you could escape through the windows.

That's exactly why she decided to do.

It would have been interesting to see a petite French lady in short skirts trying to go through the window… But I didn't look, you perv 🙂

Anyway, just as she got out, the locksmith got the door open, and we could all leave.

That was the highlight of my day. Of course, there were the conversations leading to the event, but I wouldn't bore you with those.

However, I think there is a powerful lesson here. The way that she was so eager to go to her next meeting, showed that she really cared about the next client. She could have called and explained the situation. I'm sure that her client would have understood. But no, she literally went through the window for her client.

This is what happens when you work with your ideal clients. If the client was just a regular client or worst a nightmare client, you would look up any excuse to avoid them. But when you work with your ideal clients, you actually want to go and meet them. You are looking forward to the work, you don't dread it.

In the end, it does not even feel like work, it feels just like helping a good friend. The difference is that you are getting well paid for your help.
